About Me

Who is Dorvera Owens?

I am a science educator. I have taught grades 5th to 12th, in both private and public education. My specialty area is biological and life sciences, online instruction, and curriculum development. I absolutely love teaching science because it is fun, challenging, and it gives students an opportunity to learn about their world, its inhabitants, and themselves.

I have taught biology, marine biology, ecology, advanced placement biology, anatomy & physiology, and forensic science; as well as, general sciences for grades 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. I believe that when science is taught using demonstrations, manipulatives, and multimedia that children learn the concepts more effectively, and therefore, they are more likely to remember and apply the concepts they have learned. For this reason, my approach to instruction has always been teaching with a hands-on approach, using visual aids and different types of multimedia.
